Body
Our intention was to draw in our audience with a display-spanning outline of a body. The body was constructed as a collage, juxtaposing historical photographs with contemporary imagery. The images are grouped by the body that signifies a myth of the black body. Through collage, we can make physically present the mythic body, and through juxtaposition reveal the mutually reinforcing nature of these myths.
Text Panels
In contrast to the image-formed body, the walls surrounding the body feature quotes highlighting the textual and rhetorical construction of these myths. We used both historical and contemporary examples of this rhetoric, aiming to show its internal inconsistencies and its continued presence into the modern day.
