Intelligence
The myth of lower intelligence in African-Americans has existed since the creation of race in the early Colonial era. This myth has been used to justify slavery, torture, sterilization, and murder. The rhetoric of this myth continues to the present day, with works such as “The Bell Curve” and “Troublesome Inheritance” arguing for a natural lack of intelligence among peoples of African descent. These works are rejected by mainstream sociologists.
